REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF SANDRA LOVETTE SATTERFIELD-BLAKE

Sandra L. Satterfield Blake, born December 12, 1950, passed away on Monday December 29, at the Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond, VA . Her father, Herley Lee Satterfield, and mother Rosa Marie Satterfield and brother Sylvester Lee Satterfield preceded her in death. Sandra is the fifth child of fourteen siblings born to Herley and Rosa. She attended Bethel SDA Church School through the fifth grade. The balance of her elementary education was at the Bells Mill Elementary School. Sandra graduated from Crestwood High School in 1970. From Crestwood High School, she went to Oakwood College and soon after went to work for Tidewater Association for Retarded Citizens (TARC), And later worked at Chesapeake General Hospital. She was baptized into the Campostella Heights SDA Church in the early 1960’s where she remained a faithful.

In 1977 she married her husband Charles Blake. To this union was born two children, Jessica and Jeremiah.

Sand, as her sibling called her, was a kind, generous and a very loving person. She would give you anything she had if you asked her for it. Growing up, she gave her baby brother Wade (Pook-Pook) chicken, goats, the whole farm, and whatever he asked for. She was a tireless soul in keeping in touch with all her siblings, aunts and uncles, church members and friends. Sand just loved people. She loved family outings, and traveling, and talking on the phone (the phone was her ministry).

Sandra’s last years of life were spent battling the ravages of diabetes, and was recently diagnosed with leukemia. It was her treatment for leukemia, which took its toll, and sent Sand’s spirit back to the Lord. In her final days Sand grew closer and closer to the Lord and did not mind letting anyone and everyone know who her Lord and Saviour was. During one of her stays at the hospital, she said that one night the nurses closed her door because she was singing too loud.

Leaving to mourn her passing are: husband Charles Blake; daughter, Jessica Blake; and son, Jeremiah Blake all of Virginia Beach, VA. Brothers: Wilson Williams (Gina) of Punta Gorda, Fl.; Elbert Satterfield (Whilhemina) and Herley B. Satterfield (Renita) of Chesapeake, VA; Milton Satterfield of Jackson, SC; Wade Satterfield (Lenn) of Sunbury, NC.
